The National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) is the only university in Nigeria that is entirely devoted to distance education. In 2003, the University initiated postgraduate studies through the provision of diploma certificates. In contrast, the School of Postgraduate Studies was not officially established until 2009.
At present, the programs are offered in both full-time (Ph.D. and Master’s degrees based on research) and part-time (short courses).
These programs are intended to increase the student’s knowledge profundity, foster the development of new and updated professional skills, and produce graduates who contribute to the success of their respective organizations or businesses.
The majority of postgraduate diploma and master’s programs are founded upon research and coursework that have been designed in accordance with the tenets of distance and open learning.
Samaila Mande is the current dean of the School of Postgraduate Studies. He holds a degree in Business Administration and specializes in Human Resource Management.
NOUN’s overarching goal is to attain excellence in scholarly endeavors, research, and consultancies, while also fostering the growth of knowledge and improving the professional competencies of graduates. This commitment is grounded in the fundamental principles of Open and Distance Learning.
Furthermore, the institution’s mission is to foster an environment that is conducive to the pursuit of postgraduate studies of the highest caliber, with the ultimate goal of not only generating and broadening new knowledge but also enhancing the students’ quality of life and experiences.
The postgraduate courses and admission requirements for these programs offered by NOUN are highlighted in this article.
