Seun Kuti reveals his father left him no inheritance due to his generosity. The musician Seun Kuti said that his father, Fela Kuti, did so many good things before he died that he did not leave him any money when he died.
Seun Kuti talked about how his late father, Fela Kuti, who is known as the “father of Afrobeat,” did so much good work that he didn’t leave him any money.
As a student, he said that Fela Kuti’s kindness meant that he had nothing when his father died, even though his daily allowance was more than what his teacher made.
And Seun says that before his father died, he was feeding almost a thousand people in his Kalakuta neighborhood.

Speaking in a live Instagram video, Kuti said, “When Fela was the top musician in Nigeria, we were living with about 500 people in our house. All the money I was meant to inherit, Fela used it to cater for people.
“Everyone in Kalakuta was receiving daily allowance and weekly salaries. Both Kalakuta and [African] shrine. Almost 1000 people. They were artisans… We had all the professions in Kalakuta.
“My pocket money in 1990, throughout my primary school was N100 per day. My pocket money a day was bigger than my teacher’s salary.”
