Retired British-Somali long-distance runner Sir Mo Farah is regarded as one of the greatest runners of all time.
With ten global championship gold medals, including four Olympic and six World titles, he has amassed the most success as the male track distance runner.
Additionally, Farah holds the record for the most successful track athlete from Great Britain in the modern era of the Olympic Games.
Early Life & Education
Sir Mo Farah, born Hussein Abdi Kahin, entered the world on March 23, 1983, in Gabiley, Somali Democratic Republic.
At the age of four, his father tragically lost his life during the Isaaq Genocide.
Following this devastating event, Farah was separated from his mother and spent a few years in Mogadishu as a child.
At the age of nine, he was illegally trafficked to the United Kingdom via Djibouti, where he was forced to work as a domestic servant under a different name.
Farah eventually obtained British citizenship in July 2000 and adopted Mohamed Farah. His physical education teacher first discovered his athletic talent, Alan Watkinson.
Farah’s ambition was to become a car mechanic or play as a right winger for the Arsenal football club.
Mo Farah Personal Life
In April 2010, Farah tied the knot with his long-time girlfriend, Tania Nell.
The couple gave birth to twin daughters, Aisha and Amani, born in August 2012. They also have a son named Hussein, born in 2015.
Career Farah’s running career began in 1996 when he joined the London Borough of Hounslow Athletics Club.
He represented Hounslow at cross-country events and quickly gained recognition for his talent. In 2001, Farah won his first major title in the 5000 meters at the European Athletics Junior Championships.
