Lionel Messi vs Ronaldo: Who would have won the Best FIFA awards if the two did not exist?

FIFA, which is in charge of football around the world, has announced the three finalists for the 2023 The Best FIFA Men’s Player Award.

When the 2023 Ballon d’Or is given out, Lionel Messi, Erling Haaland, and Kylian Mbappe will play each other again. Messi won the award. FIFA’s website says that the winner will be announced on January 15, 2024, in London.

It’s not a new thing that Messi and Ronaldo win most of the big individual awards. For example, they share 13 Ballon d’Or, which is the most prestigious award for a single player. So far, only Luka Modric and Karim Benzema have been able to beat the pair.

FIFA gave out its first “The Best” awards in 2016. Ronaldo won the first award after leading Portugal to the Euro championships. He got another one in 2017. Messi already had two awards.

Who do you think would have won the awards if those two people didn’t exist? Every year, Sports Brief looks at the top three winners.

Ronaldo has won the Ballon d’Or five times, and Messi is now tied with him for second place. For ten years, these two players controlled this trophy and won it every year. During that time, many other good and great players failed to beat them. There are some great players who could have won this prize without Messi and Ronaldo. Who would have won the Best FIFA awards if the two did not exist?

In the first-ever The Best awards, Messi came in second place, behind Ronaldo. Griezmann came in third. He had a good year, but it was sad because he lost the Euro and Champions League finals to Ronaldo’s Portugal and Real Madrid, respectively.
