All members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) nationwide are instructed to stop working as of Monday midnight until further notice by the organization’s national body.
The instruction was provided by ASUU President Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke in a letter that was distributed to each branch chairperson and zonal coordinator on Monday night.
He explained that the order was a reiteration of the original instruction issued by the leadership of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) and the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), which called on all workers in the country to start taking industrial action from midnight on Monday.

He insisted that in order to collectively defend the interests of Nigerian workers, ASUU, an associate of the NLC, would have to abide by the mandate.
“Therefore, all of our union’s leadership at the zone and branch levels should mobilize all members to take part in the industrial action right away because a people united cannot be defeated,” he declared.
In a different development, ASUU voiced its profound displeasure with the severe economic crisis that Nigeria and her people are currently facing.
The president of ASUU stated that at the union’s two-day National Executive Council (NEC) meeting, which took place on Sunday, November 12, 2023, at Kaduna State University (KASU), Kaduna State, the state of the country and the university system were thoroughly evaluated.
