Femi Falana, a human rights attorney and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, stated on Wednesday that Omowunmi, the late musician Ilerioluwa Aloba, also known as Mohbad,’s wife, came to see him in order to demand justice for her husband.
The late musician was buried the following day after passing away on September 12, 2023, according to The PUNCH.
There have been requests for inquiries to be conducted in order to determine the cause of the musician’s passing after his passing.
Falana told PUNCH Metro in Abuja that he had visited Idowu Owohunwa, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, and that Owohunwa had received assurances that an inquiry had been started.
Yesterday, on Tuesday, the young widow of Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, popularly referred to as Mohbad, came to our office to ask for assistance in seeking justice on behalf of her late husband.
We expressed our condolences to her and the Aloba family and reassured her that we would do all in our power to find out the truth about the tragic circumstances behind the untimely death of the Nigerian rapper, musician, and songwriter.
“After that, we had a meeting with Mr. Idowu Owohunwa, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, to discuss the police investigation into the case. I was provided with the investigation’s current status by the CP.
We applaud the nonviolent protests and demands for justice made by young people in Nigeria. I reassure them and other worried residents that we will work with the coroner to identify and bring to light those who are both indirectly and directly accountable for Mohbad’s unexplained death.
The Ekiti House of Assembly has demanded a comprehensive inquiry on Mohbad’s passing in the interim.
The demand was made by the parliament on Wednesday during discussion of a resolution put forth by Babatunde Oke, the member for Ikere Constituency I.
The motion was made as a matter of urgent public interest by Oke, who stated that it was critical to ascertain the facts behind Mohbad’s passing.
“This matter requires a comprehensive inquiry. We need to know the truth since we keep hearing contradictory accounts,” he remarked.
Babatunde Odowu, a representative for Ikere Constituency 2, supported the motion by stating that Mohbad’s passing was not only premature but also a great loss.
The Speaker, Adeoye Aribasoye, expressed in his speech how very saddened the Assembly was by the musician’s passing.
Another development was the story of Kabiru Shotobi, a community leader in the Lagos State neighborhood of Ikorodu, where Mohbad was interred. Shotobi related how the late artist’s father had supposedly planned to bury him at midnight on the day of his death.
The video, which became widely popular on Tuesday, featured an old guy discussing the incident.
Speaking in Yoruba, Shotobi declared, “I refused to believe that they would bury him. They intended to bring his body at dusk. They cannot bury him at night, I told them. They had already carried a shovel to the compound.
Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim, a former All Progressives Congress presidential candidate for 2023, urged the police on Wednesday to honor the legacy and spirit of the late rising music sensation and to launch a comprehensive investigation into his death.
In addition, he expressed concern over drug lords’ power and the influence of cult leaders on certain facets of the music and entertainment industries.
He also said that the police should make sure that any criminals who may have committed the crime do not get away with it.
In a statement released in Abuja, Olawepo-Hashim, a Global Oil Executive and previous Trust Party presidential candidate in the 2019 election, made these claims.
“Highlighted the terror that the grip of the underworld on our streets inflicts on the society,” he said, referring to Mohbad’s death.
Thousands of young people in Osun State staged a candlelight march on Wednesday in memory of the late artist Aloba Ilerioluwa, also known as Mohbad, and demanded an investigation into the circumstances surrounding his passing.
