DJ Sumbody, a popular South African music producer and Amapiano hitmaker, has passed away.
The hitmaker was fatally shot in Johannesburg early on Sunday, November 20.
According to local news outlets, DJ Sumbody and his crew were traveling on Woodmead Road when an unidentified gunman approached their vehicle and showered it with gunfire.
The entertainer and one of his bodyguards were killed instantly by the barrage of gunfire.
DJ Sumbody, an Amapiano hitmaker, was fatally shot in South Africa.
A third individual, thought to be one of DJ Sumbody’s bodyguards, is in critical condition after miraculously surviving the hail of gunfire.
Before the incident, DJ Sumbody was scheduled to perform on Sunday at the All White Veuve Clicquot Picnic.
The motivation for the violent assault on DJ Sumbody and his crew remains unknown.
Police in Gauteng has confirmed that they are hunting for suspects and examining the circumstances surrounding the shooting in Woodmead.
DJ Sumbody was fatally shot in South Africa, Lieutenant-Colonel Mavela Masondo stated in a statement.
“At approximately 12:20 a.m., police received a report of a shooting on Woodmead Drive,” the report said. Upon arrival, officers discovered two individuals inside a Volkswagen Golf who had been shot. A driver and a passenger were both pronounced deceased at the site.
“According to reports, the third victim, a BMW X5 driver, was sent to the nearest medical facility for treatment of bullet wounds.
“The acting provincial commissioner of Gauteng, Major-General Tommy Mthombeni, has dispatched all available resources to track down the shooters.
“Police request that anyone with information that could aid in the investigation or the apprehension of the suspects call the tip line or report to the nearest police station. My SAPS App, which can be downloaded to any smartphone, also allows for the submission of information anonymously.
